Civil Engineering Design Services for Fire Rebuild Projects in Northern California

As recovery efforts begin, it is important to know what steps should be taken to rebuild as effectively and efficiently as possible. We are here to help you navigate through this strenuous process.

Step 1: The first step to take is for the property owner to file an Insurance Claim. This will ensure a timely response for the rebuild process.

Step 2: Once a claim has been filed the second step is Debris Removal. This is a required two-phase process; removal of household hazardous waste and removal of other fire-related debris. It is important to note that a grading permit is not required for debris removal. See link below for further debris removal information.

Step 3: Once debris removal has been completed; it is time to begin the Rebuilding Design and Permitting Process.  The property owner will need to obtain a design professional, typically a civil engineer, drafter/designer, or architect, to prepare construction plans for the new building(s). Property owners should work with design professionals to incorporate all their desires within the new building site. BC Engineering Group is happy to answer your questions and fill the design professional role for your project.

Once construction plans have been prepared, it is time to apply for the corresponding permits. Both City of Santa Rosa and Sonoma County have dedicated Resilient Permit Centers exclusively for property owners affected by the fires. Design professionals will work directly with the Resilient Permit Centers to guide property owners through the permit and review process.

Step 4: Once construction plans have been approved and permits have been obtained Construction and Inspections can begin. The building process will include grading and groundwork, foundation, framing and walls, landscaping, etc. Inspections will be required throughout the building process along with a final inspection and activation of site utilities.

Step 5: Move In! Once the final inspection is completed the property owner will be granted an occupancy permit. Once a Certificate of Occupancy is received, it is time to move in!
